Weinstein controversy: How the smug self congratulatory anti Trump speeches in Hollywood backfired

Let's get some things out of the way. I actually agreed with the majority of what a lot of the celebs had to say at these award shows and find Trump to be a joke of a man. Having said that, liberals just seemed clueless how silly Hollywood celebs looked acting so self important when they were preaching to the world about how bad Trump was. Same with other rants in the past where playing the role of an activist was mistakenly viewed as heroic when all it was a chance to play someone so heroic.

So Daily Kos is one area where I would not get the side eye a lot because I would not join in a hundred amens to some echo chamber worthy comment,

I posted this comment about how Hollywood would appear more heroic if people would be more judicious in making fun of Trump to maximize the effect and use some energy going after the bad people in their own industry and that would be truly heroic. I made a couple of comments like that without much in the way of agreement from other readers. There was this diary -

While Streep had something valid to say, this does not help at all. We have to be clever about what we say. And hollywood lacks self awareness. Why not take some time to bash all the producers and sleazy people in Hollywood who engage in some of the same behavior or worse as Trump? All the casting people? All the sleazy people who abuse child actors. You never hear any of this at award shows. So that’s why people find hollywood preaching at awards shows to be a little too self congratulatory and condescending. 

Let me stress that I dont disagree with what Streep said. It’s just the tone seemed a little too over the top so soon after the electin and so close to other awards shows that piled on Trump. We have to be smarter in how we make fun of or criticize this moron of a President elect. 

Imagine if the liberals in Hollywood actually did something along the lines of my unsolicited advice. Imagine Jolie going on stage exposing Weinstein or Jane Fonda making a comment about Weinstein in February at the oScars instead of merely taking an easy shot against Trump in  a recent awards show. Now celebrities are scrambling to react to the Weinstein story.

Right wingers do not rejoice yet. At least the liberals in Hollywood did go after Weinstein, even if belatedly. There are many right wingers , including celebrities, who still have not said a thing about Roger Ailes. In fact, before he died, the future President Trump even hired him as a consultant.Better late than never. So you don't get to laugh at the liberals.
